Best Stain Colors for White Oak

Natural (No Stain)

Pale beige to warm tan. The most popular choice for modern Michigan homes. Lets the grain and ray flecks show.

Classic Gray (Bona)

Cool medium gray. The most popular gray stain for white oak. Dramatically different from red oak — no purple undertone.

Whitewash / White

Pale, coastal look. Works beautifully on white oak. Requires a pigmented stain or diluted white technique.

Jacobean

Dark chocolate. Stunning on white oak — the tight grain holds dark stain evenly. Dramatic and luxurious.

Early American

Warm medium brown. Classic choice. Works on white oak but shows more warmth than on red oak.

Ebony

Near-black. Requires perfect sanding. Best on white oak for a clean, even result. Bold and contemporary.
