Riva Spain's Riva Max carries a 6mm European oak wear layer — the thickest we carry and thick enough to refinish 3+ times. DuChateau, Provenza, Three Trees, and Preverco carry 4mm wear layers, which support 2 refinishes. Sheoga's engineered line carries a 3mm wear layer.
Which brand is best for wide plank in Michigan?
All five European oak brands (DuChateau, Provenza, Three Trees, Riva Spain, Preverco) are available in 6"–9.5" widths and are engineered for Michigan's humidity range. Sheoga offers custom widths up to 7"+ in solid or engineered. For the widest engineered plank, Three Trees and Riva Spain both reach 9.5".

Is European white oak better than domestic white oak?
European white oak grows in slower-growth forests, producing tighter, more consistent grain with less color variation than domestic white oak. Both are excellent; European oak is the standard specification for luxury Michigan residential projects because of its consistency and the quality of the brands that use it. Sheoga uses domestic American white oak, which is appropriate for projects where American-milled solid construction is preferred.
